SS Satara Print

The wreck of the SS Satara...The SS Satara was a 410ft coastal trader ship built in December 1901 by W.Denny & Bros, Scotland.
On the morning of Wednesday April 10th 1910, she struck the Edith Breaker whilst passing through Seal Rocks, on her way to Brisbane. She now lies between the Edith Breaker and Seal Rocks in 44 metres of water, resting on her keel. Over the years she has deteriorated and is quite spread out over the sea floor so you will need to do several dives to have explored the full length of the ship.

ENTRY: You can get in to the water by a giant stride from the stern then swim to the bow.

DESCENT: Descend the anchor line holding the line all the way down.

DEPTH: Average 44 metres.

BOTTOM TIMES: For no decompression diving, you will have a bottom time of 9 minutes.

SAFETY STOPS: We recommend that you do at least 10 minutes on your 5 metre safety stop.

DANGER: Current can be running hard, so you should hold the anchor line on your descent all the way to the bottom. Visibility can sometimes be down to 2 metres or so but having said that, it can be up to 25 metres+ Depth can also be a danger as you could run low or run out of air.

IF YOU: Come off the anchor line: Do a normal ascent to the safety stop at 5 metres, do a 5-minute stop, surface, establish positive buoyancy, signal the boat and deploy your safety sausage. Wave your arm if you need help or your safety sausage and we will come and get you as soon as we
